Chris Berman left ‘racially disparaging’ voicemail to Jemele Hill: suit
Within the bombshell, wide-reaching lawsuit that former anchor Adrienne Lawrence filed Sunday against ESPN is an allegation of misconduct against Worldwide Leader icon Chris Berman.
In early 2016, the longtime face of the network left a threatening and racially disparaging voicemail on Jemele Hill’s ESPN work phone, the suit alleged, while Hill was working on His & Hers. In a Twitter statement, Hill admitted she had a personal conflict with Berman but strongly denied how the lawsuit characterized the dispute.
Hill’s statement also took aim at Lawrence.
Frankly, I’m more disappointed that someone I considered to be a friend at one point would misrepresent and relay a private conversation without my knowledge in which I simply attempted to be a sounding board for personal gain.
Berman has taken a backseat at ESPN since early 2017 and now appears on the network sporadically. ESPN reportedly settled a sexual harassment suit against Berman in 2015, when a former makeup artist received allegedly inappropriate messages from the voice of NFL Primetime.
Lawrence, a former anchor and legal analyst for ESPN, is accusing the network of turning a blind eye to widespread harassment.
He complied. They went and got him. I was not there. My family took him and had him checked in.
Smith was being sought by San Francisco police after he fled the scene of an alleged domestic-violence incident, police said. In audio from the police scanner, the caller, who called Smith her ex-boyfriend, accused the troubled former NFL star of biting her wrists before climbing out of a window and leaving the scene, according to the Mercury News.
He was last seen wearing a 49ers hoodie and gray sweatpants, according to the dispatcher.
I wish the best for Aldon. And I’m scared for his life with his addiction, his fiance said. I cannot comment on the altercation but I can tell you I love him and so happy he turned to my family who considers him family and hopefully he gets the help he truly needs.
