WATCH: How has Sam Darnold looked in first month with Jets?
It’s been a little more than a month since the Jets picked quarterback Sam Darnold third overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.
The Jets and Darnold are now through two weeks (six practices) of organized team activities, with four more OTAs and seven more spring practices remaining.
So how has Darnold done so far, in his first month-plus with the Jets?
Defenseman Brooks Orpik, who took a slash to the hand late in Game 2, did not participate in the optional practice, along with Alex Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie and others. Trotz says Orpik is fine.
Goaltender Braden Holtby, who stopped 37 of 39 shots in Game 2 to even the series, was on the ice as part of his regular routine. Holtby has continued his career-long playoff success this spring, going 13-7 with a 2.19 goals-against average and.921 save percentage.
Over his NHL career, Holtby has a 2.04 GAA and.929 save percentage in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
As for Bortles, the 2017 season was his breakoutyear. Not only did the University of Central Florida grad take the Jacksonville to the AFC Championship Game, he also played statistically well.
He gave me a lot of tips on how to do it, and how not to do it, Barkley said. He’s done a little bit of both. Everyone has that. … He’s seen it all.
Barkley knows that he and Beckham can shift the Giants’ ceiling, but thinks the entire offense can do the same.
I do believe that we can have an impact on this league, Barkley said. But, when I say ‘we,’ it’s never just Odell and me. It’s not just the Saquon and Odell duo. It’s not the Saquon show. That wide-receiving corps around Odell is extremely talented. You have a great stable of running backs.
The whole team is in a really great spot.
