The Dolphins were looking for safety help a year ago and opted to sign T.J. McDonald to a contract, but he’s not the long-term answer. They also need cornerback help, and Fitzpatrick solves both. At this point, I doubt they’re truly in the Baker Mayfield sweepstakes, but they do like him.
Being able to pull-up from midrange and the perimeter would go a long way in unlocking Ball’s offense, but he’s made only 31.0 percent of those attempts this season. Until he proves he can make a higher portion of those shots, teams will continue to go under every screen he’s involved in and dare him to beat them from distance.
The same goes for when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands. Ball has been slightly more efficient on catch-and-shoot 3-point attempts this season, and yet teams still don’t show him much respect from distance. It allows his defender to help off him and clog the lane whenever one of his teammates put the ball on the floor, as Kris Dunn does here:
With needs at running back, offensive tackle and pass rusher, the Colts can’t go wrong at No. 3. Chubb is the best non-quarterback in the draft, and he has the mental makeup to be a defense-changing talent like Jalen Ramsey has been for the Jaguars.
It has been a while since the Knicks attempted to build their roster in earnest through the draft, but that’s the most effective tool for them at this point. Like most other rebuilding teams, their goal is to build primarily through the draft and be ready to contend at an elite level once the Golden State Warriors and LeBron James-led teams are finished battling for NBA dominance, according to opposing executives familiar with the matter.
The Jets need a quarterback unless they want to roll the dice with Christian Hackenberg again. Josh Allen may fit the type of quarterback they’ve drafted before, but Mayfield is the better NFL passer. New York met with both extensively at the Senior Bowl.
The Bucs need to upgrade their offensive line this offseason, with Ali Marpet their only capable starter for the long term. Nelson can push Marpet back to center and give this team two elite blockers for Jameis Winston.
Chicago has found success through free agency on its defense, but it’s time to find high-end, young defensive talent through the draft. Edmunds is a special talent and one of the few off-ball linebackers who deserve to be drafted in the top half of Round 1.
